Join the IonSat project !

Ionsat is a 6U nanosatellite equipped with an electric propulsion engine, dedicated to demonstrating the feasibility of nanosatellite missions in very low orbit (300km).

Descriptions

In the context of IonSat and the CSEP, we have four internships offers for Spring 2022. The interns will work with two full time engineers of the CSEP, and can use the help of the space team of the Laboratory of Plasmas Physics, specialized in conception of space-ready magnetometers and onboard electronics. There are also frequent contacts with experts from the French aerospace agencies (CNES, ONERA) and compagnies (Thalès) partners of the IonSat Project.

Development of IonSat flight software

The first topic focuses on the IonSat flight software (FS), as well as the flat-sat: the Ionsat electronic engineering model. The notions of computer development and space systems engineering will prevail. The mission of the internship will focus on :

  • The development, implementation, and validation of the main Flight Software modes
  • The development, implementation, and validation of the communications between the on board computer (OBC) and the different subsystems

Previous experience or training in embedded systems or C/C++ programming is required to successfully complete these assignments.

Attitude Determination and control (ADCS)

This internship is no longer available

The second subject concerns the control of the attitude of IonSat. The main missions are :

  • Continue to improve the ADCS of IonSat: Iteratively implementing and improving ADC algorithms, specially robust control methods on satellite physical uncertainties.
  • Perform ‘hardware in the loop’ tests on a ‘FlatSat’ model.

Testing and Integration for the IonSat project

This internship is no longer available

The third topic deals with starting the Engineering Model (EM) of IonSat. This means assembling and testing the differents subsystems of the plateform. The internship will focus on :

  • Hands-on testing of satellite hardware, Inspection and testing of purchased components
  • Plan the satellite assembling, Electronic and mechanic subsystems assembling, until the completion of the entire satellite

Design and mechanical analysis of IonSat

This internship is no longer available

The fourth subject concerns the mechanical design and configuration of IonSat. The main missions are :

  • Static and dynamic analysis of the structure
  • Rapid prototyping to confirm the integration protocols
